Tetra Pak, the food processing and packaging solutions provider, plans to outperform its 2010 carbon emission levels in Malaysia by the end of 2020 and still carry on with its growth.

According to the company, the new environmental programme has been devised to provide sustainable packaging by using renewable materials, which would lead to lower environmental footprint and reduced waste, Business Times reported.

Tetra Pak communications and environment director Terrynz Tan said that with an estimated growth rate of 5% per compound annually, the company would require to decrease its carbon dioxide equivalent emission by 40%.

The company is also making more efforts to double the recycling rate for used beverage cartons by the end of the decade, Tan added.

The company expects that the sustainability efforts will make an impact on the revenue indirectly, as people would prefer to buy environmental-friendly products.
